The county sheriff’s office worked with the local social services department to find a way to hold parents who haven’t paid child support accountable. The task force originally formed over a month ago. In just one day, officers arrested 13 people and had 12 turn themselves in.
The sheriff’s office collected over $22,000 in the first month alone, much greater than what they took in for May, which was less than $9,000. A representative at the sheriff’s office said they intended to serve papers and collect outstanding fees relating to unpaid child support. He also said that once word spread about the task force many parents took it upon themselves to call the police and ask if they could pay what they owed.
