Managing back-to-school with complex living arrangements

On Behalf of | Sep 6, 2018 | Child Custody |

Back-to-school is in full swing, and many Texas parents are struggling to adapt to new routines. Every new school year presents scheduling challenges, but for parents who have complex living arrangements, it can be truly taxing. For parents who’ve gone through a recent breakup or divorce, finding a new way to approach back to school is important.

Scheduling can be a nightmare, especially for parents who have kids in sports, music or other extracurricular activities. Even families with two parents in the home can find it hard to keep the schedule straight. Add in complex living arrangements, and scheduling can quickly become a primary source of contention among parents and stress among children.

One solution is to share an online calendar. That allows all parties to add reminders and important events. Both parents can check to see if there are potential conflicts before making plans, and older kids can even put in requests for sleepovers or other activities with their friends. An added benefit of an online schedule is the opportunity to reduce in-person or phone conversations that can become heated.

For those in Texas who are working through this back-to-school season while also adapting to complex living arrangements, it might be helpful to take a long-term view of the matter. Working with the other parent to ease scheduling conflicts is not only easier for the adults, it can also reduce tension and stress for shared children. That makes finding a new scheduling solution well worth the time and effort.
