Is divorce in the future for Google’s cofounder Sergey Brin?

On Behalf of | Sep 4, 2013 | Child Custody

Many people here in Texas were surprised to hear the news that Google cofounder Sergey Brin and his wife were separating after six years of marriage. As with all high-profile splits, the main concern on a lot of people’s minds was how a pending divorce could affect not only the couple’s lives but the businesses they had stake in as well.

Although reports indicate that the couple had been living apart for several months before announcing their split, they did not indicate if this meant that they would be moving forward with the divorce process or not. If a divorce is in their future, some have already started to wonder what affect it will have on Google and the couple’s other business ventures. Because Google and Brin both invested in his wife’s DNA testing company, some fear that the division of assets could get messy in the event of a high-asset divorce.

But reports do indicate that the couple signed a prenuptial agreement which could quell many of these concerns and mean easier property division down the road. Though the division of their assets might be an easy process, figuring out who will get custody of their two children could be an entirely different matter. While reports indicate that the couple “remain good friends and partners,” there’s no telling if this will change when they begin child custody talks.

Although a prenuptial agreement might eliminate some of the frustrations for this marriage, it may not eliminate all of them. That’s why it’s often times necessary to get help from an experienced attorney who knows how to ease you through the process and help you and your ex-spouse come to agreement in the end.
